Four new routes

#ATHLETESTORY

From Drei Zinnen - Tre Cime di Lavaredo to Pakistan, in June the Salewa climbers signed some remarkable first ascents.

8th June - Christoph Hainz has completed the first redpoint of his new route (in total the fifth on the Drei Zinnen) on the south face of the Cima Grande. The route has been called Grohmann-Hainz, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first ascent of the Cima Grande completed by Austrian climber Paul Grohmann on the 21st of August 1869. The new route of the Salewa climber has 47 pitches and is "beautiful and easy, a kind of second Normal", in the words of Hainz himself.

13th-14th June - Simon Gietl and Vittorio Messini have completed the first redpoint of Alles in Kasten, a new five pitch route on Mittlere Kasten, near Kals, in the Hohe Tauern in Austria. Mittlere Kasten is located just above 3000 meters and on its southern side offers a slab of gneiss between 120 and 250 meters high. The two Salewa athletes opened the route in October 2018 and returned in June to free it.

22nd June - Polish climbers Jacek Matuszek and Łukasz Dudek completed the first ascent of Premiere, a new multi-pitch route on the north face of the Cima Grande, in the group of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo. The new route starts next to La Strada, opened in 1980 by fellow countrymen Piotr Edelman and Jan Fijalkowski. Premiere is the first new route opened by the Polish duo of Salewa athletes.

29th June - Simon Messner, the most recent acquisition of the Salewa climbers’ team, made the first solo ascent of Toshe III (6200m, also known as Geshot Peak), located south-west of Nanga Parbat, in the Bunar Valley in Pakistan. The climb was completed in five and a half hours from base camp to the summit, for a total of 4600m of elevation gain.
