PIUMINO
IL MATERIALE ISOLANTE PER LE ESIGENZE PIU' SPECIFICHE
La piuma è un vero miracolo della natura: partendo da un nucleo minuscolo, circa due milioni di diramazioni si irradiano in tutte le direzioni. In tal modo la piuma si espande su un'ampia superficie e quindi intrappola molta aria calda, pur mantenendo un peso minimo. I suoi punti di forza: anche dopo una forte compressione, ad es. nell'imballaggio, riacquista il suo volume originale. Il comfort e il potere isolante sono straordinari.
Il problema: durante la raccolta della materia prima, i volatili vengono spesso maltrattati. Per questo abbiamo deciso di produrre le nostre giacche e i nostri sacchi a pelo in piumino, utilizzando esclusivamente piumaggio di alta qualità e di provenienza etica. Per assicurare ciò, acquistiamo esclusivamente piume che siano certificate nel rispetto delle direttive del Responsible Down Standard, ad oggi la norma più completa al mondo in materia di protezione degli animali.
La stesura dell'RDS ha coinvolto diversi gruppi d'interesse. Un contributo essenziale è stato dato da fornitori, allevatori, organizzazioni per la protezione degli animali ed esperti del settore. La norma è indipendente, stabilisce requisiti univoci e si fonda su controlli regolari, i quali possono essere svolti anche senza preavviso.
RDS significa:
Un chiaro "No" alla spiumatura in vivo e all'alimentazione forzata di anatre e oche
Un chiaro "Sì" alle "Cinque libertà" per gli animali
Nessuna uccisione di animali esclusivamente per piumino e piume
Controlli annuali in ogni fase della produzione (allevamento, macello, trattamento, ecc.)
Processo trasparente, al fine di proteggere la credibilità della norma

Derived from the lower feathers of waterfowl such as ducks and geese, down has astounding properties that make it a unique marvel of nature - Light as a snowflake, it protects against the cold and is highly compressible due to its elasticity. No other material combines extremely low weight with high thermal insulation. Hence, down has a superior heat and weight ratio. As a result, high quality down has decisive advantages over synthetic materials and meets the strictest of requirements in its stride. We carefully ensure that our down jackets and sleeping bags are only filled with high quality, ethically harvested down. To ensure this in a transparent and credible fashion while eradicating unnecessary animal suffering from the supply chain, SALEWA has decided, going forward, to only purchase down that comes with RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certification. The RDS is currently the most comprehensive, independent certified animal welfare and traceability standard worldwide. The development of the standards required a major commitment by various stakeholders; especially input from suppliers, farmers, animal welfare organizations and industry experts was essential. The standard addresses issues proactively by setting clear requirements and auditing against them on a regular basis, including unannounced audits.

LANA DI PECORA TIROLESE
La provenienza dei materiali e la protezione degli animali giocano a malapena un ruolo nel mercato globale della lana. Spesso manca la trasparenza. Per questo cerchiamo di puntare sempre più sulla lana tirolese, poiché i contratti di fornitura con i produttori locali ci permettono un migliore controllo sugli allevamenti.

Per la nostra linea Recycled Wool Styles ci riforniamo di materiale riciclato presso uno stabilimento a Siena. Per tutte le altre linee (le linee non prodotte con lana tirolese o riciclata), la lana proviene attualmente dall'estero. Al momento stiamo cercando la possibilità di lavorare in futuro esclusivamente con lana proveniente dall'Italia.
Nessun mulesing per la lana SALEWA®
Tutti i nostri fornitori di lana sono obbligati ad abbandonare le pratiche di mulesing, dolorose per gli animali. Questa pratica consiste nell'eliminare la pelle attorno alla coda della pecora senza anestesia, per evitare un'infestazione provocata da larve di ditteri (miasi).
Questo metodo, molto dibattuto, è stato definito dagli animalisti come brutale e non necessario.
