150 years first ascent Cima Grande

#SUSTAINABILITY

Salewa celebrates the 150th anniversary of the first ascent to Cima Grande: a bolt will be donated for each purchase to preserve the classic Dolomites routes.

On 21st August 1869, the Austrian mountain climber Paul Grohmann, along with his guides Peter Salcher and Franz Innerkofler, was the first to reach the summit of Cima Grande in the Tre Cime di Lavaredo mountain chain following the Normal Route on the south face. In the 150 years since, generations of mountaineers from across the globe have retraced his footsteps by using this route.

As a mountaineering clothing and equipment brand, we feel that it is important for this and other classic Dolomites routes forming part of mountaineering history to be kept safe and accessible. In this way, new generations of climbers can use these routes and be inspired to push forward mountaineering and alpine sports in the future.

From 1st to 30th August 2019, we will donate a bolt to the Bergführerverband Südtirol association for every online purchase made at www.salewa.com. The bolts will be used to maintain and restore the Normal Route at the Cima Grande and at many other routes in the Dolomites. In this way, mountaineering tradition will be preserved, and the new generations of mountaineers will be spurred on to reach new heights.
