ULTRA TRAIN 18 is ispo award gold winner

#SALEWAAWARDS

As a technical mountain brand based in the heart of the Dolomites, the mountains are our testing ground and inspiration. SALEWA has been designing backpacks for over 70 years.

A few years back, we started introduced the Contact-Fit Lite carrying system for fast-moving mountain training activities. It has innovative Split Shoulder Straps, a Twin Compression System and highly breathable lightweight, OrthoLite open cell foam back panel. It first featured on our Ultra Train backpack. At the 2017 ISPO international sporting goods trade show in Munich, the pack won an ISPO Gold Award in the outdoor segment rucksack category. The ISPO judges said: “The open shoulder structure combined with the double buckle system keeps the pack snug on your back but doesn’t hinder you in any running movement.” (Marianne van der Steen). Naturally, we were delighted. We introduced the pack in our Spring/Summer 2017 collection in an 18-litre version and a 14-litre version – the Lite Train. They both combine the ergonomic fit and stable load of a trail running vest with the comfort and volume of a speed hiking pack.

The innovative shoulder straps and ventilated back panel mould to your body for a precise fit and promote good breathability. For stability and control when moving fast, the sophisticated Twin Compression System (TCS) includes rapid upper compression and a two-in-one lower compression connected to the hip belt for easy, on-the-fly height and volume. This ensures that the pack is kept close to the body and the load is stabilised and centred at all times.

Aaron Durogati, mountain athlete, professional paraglider and contender to win the Red Bull X-Alps adventure race which involves competitors hiking and flying over a thousand kilometres across the Alps likes the Ultra Train a lot: “I need a pack with a close carry that allows me to run freely when I’m training in the mountains and that I can reach and adjust easily without having to take it off. It needs to be versatile and big enough to take all my gear or race kit.”

In addition to its lightweight, anatomically v-shaped design, the Ultra Train 18 has a raft of further features, including a hydration compartment, easy-access slanted mesh side pockets, pole fixation and reflective prints for increased visibility during early starts and late finishes. The Ultra 18 was the official pack of the Red Bull X-Alps 2017.
