GREEN FRIDAY

OUR VISION

As a family business, we choose carefully how we do things and we think long-term. We consider the world we’re leaving behind for our grandchildren, and their grandchildren. We believe social responsibility is not some distant goal, but a mindset that dictates our daily actions and choices.
For the second year in a row, we have decided to turn BLACK FRIDAY into GREEN FRIDAY. We want to give back to our community and environment, as they are our greatest treasure and playground. Climate change is an important topic that affects all of us, and climate change is affecting our mountains and our winters.
As a company, we are committed to becoming even more sustainably and socially responsible than we already are, and we want you to be part of the solution. Instead of just offering discounts to drive sales this holiday season, we also want to add an ethical approach to business. We love winter and want to do what we can to support positive change in the outdoors.

WHAT WE WILL DO

Instead of focusing on product promotions for Green Friday, we have chosen to support Protect Our Winters. POW is a non-profit association that leads a community of athletes, thought pioneers and forward-thinking business leaders to work for political solutions to climate change.

The past decade has been the warmest on record and it looks like temperatures are set to continue rising. Meanwhile, the northern hemisphere has already lost a million square miles of spring snowpack since 1970. The Alps could lose as much as 70 per cent of their snow cover by 2099 as temperatures rise due to increased greenhouse gas emissions. Snow lines are rising in elevation and winters are starting later and getting shorter.
This is why we want to partner an organisation with a similar commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.

You can find out more about POW here: Protect Our Winter.

SINGLE USE PLASTIC

Industry-wide problems demand an industry-sized response. For this reason, over 30 brands and retailers from the outdoor industry are working together to significantly reduce single-use plastic along the supply chain. We have made good progress, but have not yet found an alternative for protecting some of our items during transport to our warehouse. For these items, we are currently testing the possibilities of creating a circular flow, for this plastic. For this reason, we are removing and collecting the protective plastic bags before sending the items you order on-line, and sending them to a recycling facility which will turn them into raw materials for plastic bags, again.

WHAT ELSE IS THE COMPANY DOING

We’re all looking forward to the winter season, and with winter comes Christmas. Treat yourself or a loved one this season to a new insulation jacket, a technical pant or a hiking pack for your next mountain adventure. Our winter collection is here and ready for you to shop.
Our products are designed to be used for multiple seasons and are built to last a long time. Instead of constantly inundating people with new styles, we hope that customers only buy what they need and reuse and repair more.

BE PART OF THE SOLUTION

Ever since we heard about this problem, we have been involved in finding solutions, by supporting different research projects and raising awareness. We are a founding member of the Microfibre Consortium, founded by the European Outdoor Group in early 2017, and the TextileMission project to find out how we can reduce our impact by making changes in our fabrics and products. While we, as producers, have to turn these technical solutions into action, there are many things that you, as a consumer, can do to help.

WHAT ELSE IS THE COMPANY DOING, REGARDING THE PLASTIC AND MICROPLASTIC ISSUES?

Microfibers are tiny textile fragments of either synthetic or natural fabrics. Microplastics are tiny particles of plastic that originate from the breakdown of synthetic fibers from polyester or nylon, or similar tiny plastic particles coming from other industries. Research has found that the main cause of microplastic release from synthetic textiles into the water is common household washing.
