OUTDOOR INDUSTRY GOLD AWARD 2018

At the 2018 OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen, we won over the OutDoor Industry Award panel with two new innovative Salewa products. The judges were so impressed that they gave them both a Gold Award.

Our APEX WALL backpack received the first Gold Award. The design is similar to our 2018 ISPO Award winning WINTER TRAIN pack, only it’s suitable for alpine climbing as well as ski touring and mountaineering.

The APEX WALL features the latest version of our proprietary Contact Flow Fit carrying system, which we designed to reduce contact surface and lower your back temperature to keep your back dry during strenuous ascents. The split shoulder straps allow greater arm mobility, especially with overhead moves. Its stand-out feature? The magnetic buckle which lets you attach and secure your rope single-handed. We make it from Robic®, which is lightweight yet 60% more tear-resistant than conventional nylon pack fabrics – ideal for tough alpine routes. And you get a full feature set, including side ski attachment, ice tool attachment, volume adjustment and an adjustable/detachable hip belt. Our award-winning Apex Wall is the to go-to pack for alpine adventures.

In the OutDoor Award footwear category, our innovative WILDFIRE EDGE approach shoe also won a Gold Award.

Interestingly, the first generation of this shoe won an OutDoor award way back in 2012. With approach shoes, you generally have to choose between climbing performance or comfort. This is why we developed the Salewa Switchfit System for the new WILDFIRE EDGE – to get the best of both. It’s easy to use – simply lace the additional offset top eyelets and then tighten the shoe. By pulling your foot forward into the toebox and compressing the toes similar to a climbing shoe, you get greater precision. To revert back to walking mode once you’ve finished climbing, simply remove the lace from the additional holes and your foot has more space and comfort again.
