#salewahome – making dream mountain adventures come true

Whether you’re a ski tourer or a freerider – anyone who loves spending time in the mountains knows that sometimes the most beautiful challenges lie right on your front doorstep. During the #salewahome campaign , Salewa called on mountain enthusiasts to share their mountain dreams – and then offered to help them come true. The applicants had to come with the required the fitness and audacity, while Salewa supplied the equipment and mountain guide support. Five projects were selected – five dreams came true. With strong memories and recollections for years to come:

Simone: Großglockner (3,798 m)
Simone Kumerschek is from Austria and has always been fascinated by the Großglockner. After being forced to take a year off due to injury, she was able to realise her summit dreams with #salewahome. “The night at the hut before the ascent was very special. It was an amazing feeling that we all had the same goal and that our shared passion for mountains united us across borders. It was a wonderful experience. During the ascent, I felt like I was in a trance – moving step by step, your body just keeps on going. When I reached the summit, I was so happy – I had to cry. I felt so amazingly free, and so very proud!”

Fabiano: Lagazuoi (2,835 m)
Fabiano Fortunato comes from Rome. Together with Salewa and mountain guide Eric Girardini he explained his dream as part of the #salewahome project: to experience the high Dolomites up close. “Despite the poor weather conditions, I climbed a via ferrata and the final 400 vertical metres. For the first time in my life, I slept in a mountain hut, at 2,752 m. And I saw with my own eyes, the unbelievable beauty of the Dolomites – it was a 360-degree experience that I will remember for the rest of my life!”

Giovanni and Bruno: Aiguille de Rochefort (4,001 m)
Giovanni Cappa and Bruno Barcella from Italy had been preparing for half a year for their #salewahome dream – an ascent of the Aiguille de Rochefort in the Mont Blanc massif – only to see it nearly fail due to bad weather. “We spent day one in overcast conditions at the Torino Hut: drinking tea, eating chocolate and throwing snowballs. Early next morning, we awoke to see an astonishingly clear, star-studded sky. Navigating by the light of our headlamps, we headed out into the dark through the snow to the Dent du Géant and then made our way along the narrow ridge of the Aiguille de Rochefort just as the sun was rising – it was a scary, yet spectacular experience! One hour later, we reached the summit at just over 4,000 m: deep-blue skies, glistening white snow... and well-earned snacks! I can’t begin to describe how happy I felt.”

Chiara: Presanella (3,558 m)
Ever since she was a little girl, Chiara Toietta would gaze up at Cima Presanalla, the highest peak in Trentino where she comes from. As such, reaching the summit was a very emotional #salewahome moment for her. “I’m very grateful for this experience. It has taught me to believe more in myself – to explore my limits, and even push beyond them. It was hard work, but I’m never going to forget this amazing day. The icing on the cake was that a few days before, it snowed, so we were able to ski back down through untouched powder.”

Marion: the Wildspitze (3,768 m)
The Wildspitze – a summit of dreams and the highest mountain in Tyrol – has always fascinated Marion. After a successful ascent in summer together with her family, it was clear to her: one day, she wanted to enjoy this view in winter too. A wish that – thanks to Salewa – has come true for Marion and her husband: “My husband and I tied the knot the week before below the Wildspitze in the Ötztal, and our time in the Pitztal was our child-free honeymoon. It was magical. Even the weather was on our side, with the whole mountain sparkling and glistening in the sun for us. What can I say: it doesn’t get better than that. Thank you then for this – it was a fabulous experience.”
