REDBULL X ALPS 2019: five Salewa athletes and their success

#REDBULLXALPS

Salewa is main sponsor of Red Bull X-Alps since 2015. As a brand with a clear focus on the next generation of progressive mountaineers, it is a great opportunity to support this international event. Red Bull X-Alps - the toughest race in the world is history again since last week.

After 9 days, 1,979 kilometres, 40 hours in the air and 77 hours on foot, our athlete Christian Maurer was the first to land on the beach in Monaco for the sixth time in a row.

Over the final hundred kilometres, Paul Guschlbauer from Hallein, near Salzburg, battled it out against Benoit Outters of France for third place. In the end, they were still so close that they decided to sportingly cross the finish line together. He took three times the third place on the podium in the last four editions of the race, and 2019 has proved
no different.

The other Austrian on the SALEWA team, Simon Oberrauner, is overjoyed at his performance and sixth place on this X-Alps race. Taking part is everything; managing to make it to the finish line is another matter. For the 28-year-old from Graz, the most important objective was to take part and make it to the finish line.

Among others, Simon was given a lot of support by Tom Friedrich, the youngest athlete to ever be involved in the X-Alps. Just 18 years of age, the young man from Graz, Austria, can already look back on a lengthy hike and fly career, and has set his sights on the 2021 X-Alps for his first crack at the race.

Following a painful exit from the 2017 X-Alps due to a knee injury, Aaron Durogati from South Tirol managed a more than respectable comeback. Carefully taped up and using acupuncture treatment, the 33-year-old set off relaxed and happy from the Mozartplatz Square. He wasn’t aiming to be the fastest. Aaron wasn’t focused on the other competitors, but wholly on himself and his body. For him, the event is a personal victory.

We congratulate our athletes and look forward to the next edition 2021.
