The Tirol Mountain Rescue team has been working with SALEWA for a number of years. Its members have expressed a strong preference for functional wool clothing because of its functional properties and comfort. “TirolWool® is ideal for the extreme temperature differences and long hours involved during high-alpine rescue work,” says Peter Veider, Director, Tirol Mountain Rescue.

Tirol Mountain Rescue guides asked us if we could make them an insulated ski touring pant. We thought this was the perfect opportunity to use TirolWool®. Sourced from Tirolean sheep, who live in high-alpine conditions where normal sheep could not survive, this fine, white wool known for its outstanding warmth, breathability and thermo regulation. And it keeps on working even when wet thanks to its higher amount of lanolin. Thanks to a special Oxy-wash treatment the wool is soft, odourless, and breathable.

The result was the Sesvenna Tirol Wool Pant: a windproof, water-repellent insulated pant that makes a warm and versatile protective layer for alpine mountaineering.

We use the (breathable) TirolWool insulation at the upper legs and seat for warmth (even when it’s wet). At the knees and lower legs, the lightweight, yet durable Durastretch bambooskin and ripstop polyamide outer fabrics are ideal for alpine use and have a PFC-free DWR finish.
