GREEN FRIDAY

WHAT WE WILL DO

We will donate 3% of the total revenue collected through online and offline purchases from select Salewa Stores (excluding returns) to EOCA's plastic cleanup project "Plastic Free: Mountain to Sea", is an organization whose goal is to clean up 3000km of plastic waste on habitat, trail and beaches over the next 2 years. You can read more about this project here.

For Green Friday this year, we have decided to support the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA). It's a non-profit association that raises money for a wide range of conservation projects, all aimed at preserving the great outdoors. As a mountaineering brand, we are comitted to giving back to the environment and consequently to protect the places we love most. We share EOCA's vision and believe that the more everyone gets involved, the bigger the impact will be.

You can find out more about EOCA here.

OUR VISION

As a family business, we choose how we do things and we think long-term. We consider the world we’re leaving behind for our grandchildren, and their grandchildren. We believe social responsibility is not some distant goal, but a mindset that informs our daily actions and choices. It’s about how each of us chooses to do things. Every day.
So we have chosen to turn BLACK FRIDAY into GREEN FRIDAY, and instead of just offering discounts to drive sales, we are giving you the chance to help us to tackle plastic pollution.

SINGLE USE PLASTIC

Industry-wide problems demand an industry-sized response. For this reason, over 30 brands and retailers from the outdoor industry are working together to significantly reduce single-use plastic along the supply chain. We have made good progress, but have not yet found an alternative for protecting some of our items during transport to our warehouse. For these items, we are currently testing the possibilities of creating a circular flow, for this plastic. For this reason, we are removing and collecting the protective plastic bags before sending the items you order on-line, and sending them to a recycling facility which will turn them into raw materials for plastic bags, again.

WHAT ELSE IS THE COMPANY DOING,
REGARDING THE PLASTIC
AND MICROPLASTIC ISSUES?

Microfibers are tiny textile fragments of either synthetic or natural fabrics.
Microplastics are tiny particles of plastic that originate from the breakdown of synthetic fibers
from polyester or nylon, or similar tiny plastic particles coming from other industries.
Research has found that the main cause of microplastic release from synthetic textiles into
the water is common household washing.
BE PART OF THE SOLUTION
Ever since we heard about this problem, we have been involved in finding solutions,
by supporting different research projects and raising awareness.
We are a founding member of the Microfibre Consortium, founded by the European Outdoor Group in early 2017,
and the TextileMission project to find out how we can reduce our impact by making changes in our fabrics and products.
While we, as producers, have to turn these technical solutions into action, there are many things
that you, as a consumer, can do to help.

WHAT WE DO
From November 29th to December, 1st, we will donate 3% of total revenue collected from online purchases
and offline purchases from select Salewa Stores (excluded returns) to
EOCA plastic free from mountain to sea.
