ANDREA SIMONINI

NATIONALITY: ITALIAN
DATE OF BIRTH: 09.08.1985
ACTIVITY: MOUNTAINEERING, ALPINE CLIMBING

BIO

Verona is as chaotic as any other town in the Veneto region. But if you like the quietness of the mountains, you just need to drive a few kilometers. Easy, if you have sensitive and intelligent parents who accompany you to cultivate your passions from an early age. That's how Andrea discovered what he loves: first ski touring, then mountaineering and free climbing. After a bad accident on ice, in 2011, he decided to hang his ice axes on the nail, dedicating 100% of his energy to climbing and to open new routes in his beloved Adige Valley, in the Dolomites or on some expeditions.

Activities practiced:
An outdoor life!
As soon as he has time, Andrea runs to the mountains to repeat some great route, or to open new ones: every new place is a new game that allows you to understand who you are. He is also dedicated to rock climbing: he has to his credit the bolting of about 400 routes in 7 new cliffs, up to difficulties of 8b. His ethics is simple and clean: no artificial steps. The result is that the repeater will feel the same emotions as the opener.
Hobbies:
An incredible family, which is not exactly a hobby: his wife Lisa and his son Tommaso are his real gasoline. The hobby is to spend every beautiful day together, walking in the mountains, riding a bike, or on the cliff... The important thing is to relax (every now and then)! Andrea also loves running in the mountains and training in his home bouldering gym, and finally he's a good pizza chef.
Favorite place:
The Brenta Dolomites, in particular the Ambiez and Adige valleys.
Favorite book:
High Infatuation: A Climber's Guide to Love and Gravity, by Steph Davis: a book in which instinct and planning intertwine and clash.
Biggest fear:
More than fear, it's about caution: being a father forces you to always ask yourself if you're not taking the longest step of the leg.

"I BELONG TO THE DOLOMITES, AND I PLAY MY GAME ON THE MOUNTAINS OF THE ENTIRE WORLD. THE DOLOMITES ARE MY HERITAGE, MY BACKYARD, BUT MOST OF ALL THE PLACE WHERE I SHAPE MY VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF MOUNTAINEERING."
