Christian (Chrigel) Maurer was born in 1982 in Adelboden (in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland) where he grew up. He still lives there today with his family. In 1986, at 4 years old, he had his first contact with a paraglider when his father, a mountaineer, took on this new sport. At 9, Chrigel began some practice inflations and little "take-offs". And then finally, at 16 years of age, he gained his official qualification and nothing more stood in his way. Chrigel soon moved on to competitions with colleagues where he learned to fly fast and efficiently.
After an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, he practiced the craft for two more years. In 2004, Chrigel was able to turn his hobby into a profession by being in the air almost daily as a test pilot. Since 2003, Chrigel has participated in international competitions as a paragliding professional at the top of his career. "I don't just want to be a role model for my two sons," he says, "I also want to pass on my knowledge to pilots, companies and all those who want to have adventures. On tandem flights, passengers and pilots can experience everything it is possible to do with a paraglider." Currently, Chrigel is a self-employed professional sportsman and his goals focus on consistency and defending his titles.
