Check list for buying a tent
No tent can do everything – that’s why SALEWA, the tent specialist, offers a
huge selection for the most diverse of uses. From stormy expedition tents
through to light-weight trekking tents and spacious family tents. In order to
find the right tent for you, it is necessary to keep the planned use in mind and
to answer the following questions:
- How large must the tent be? How many people will normally sleep in the
tent and how much luggage will generally be transported? Does the luggage
have to be stored inside the tent or can it also be stowed in the canopy if
necessary?
- How important is comfort? Do I have to be able to stand up straight in
the tent or is it enough for me when I can crawl into it - since I’m anyway
only in the tent to sleep.
- On which kind of ground do I usually pitch the tent? Can herrings for
the guy ropes generally be driven into the surface without difficulty, or
does the tent have to stand freely (e.g. a geodetic domed tent) so that I
can also set my bivouac up on a hard ground (e.g. rock)?
- How do I organise myself in my tent? Do I need many guy ropes (e.g. for
washing) and side pockets for all kinds of bits and pieces?
- Do I transport my tent primarily by car, or do I always carry it with me
in my rucksack until I need it? In this case, how important is the weight?
- In which areas do I pitch my tent? Can strong winds or even storms be
reckoned with on a regular basis (therefore, do I need numerous guy ropes or
not)? How great is the likelihood of rain?
- How robust must my tent be? Do I only need it occasionally and in fine
weather, or am I often travelling with my tent and need the most
hard-wearing and highest quality workmanship?
Anyone who has the answers to all of these questions is guaranteed, with the
help of the specialist supplier, to quickly and simply find the ideal SALEWA
tent.
