SALEWA Rock-Show Competition journal
Thursday, July 16th – Friedrichshafen (Germany)

The Final Battle Day of the RockShow

Everything was ready on schedule: the SALEWA booth was finished in time, the climbing wall looked in his innovative and yellow design grandiose, a lot of interested people came to see this great event and all “hero’s of the day” of the RockShow were extremely motivated and hungry to win the last competition.

The competition was split in qualifying in the morning, and in finale in the afternoon.
After checking out the boulderings, the first audacious climbers started to manage the first routes.
The atmosphere was great, and the rockies were completely in their element.
At the end of the qualifying, the best one was Florian Böbel from Germany.
Bad luck for the youngster Patrick, and the oldest one Peter, unfortunately they didn’t reach the finale.

In the afternoon after some recreation, the rockies were ready for the last great efforts.
The routes were set very difficult, and the spectators could already recognize after the first two of the four routes which of the rockies were on the best way to become the great “Hero of the RockShow”.
The atmosphere was great, and the spectators cheers our rockies up!
Finally the 17 years old Alfons, the youngster of the final competitors, was elected as “Hero of the Salewa RockShow Tour”.

He won a V.I.P. backstage entry to the Rock Master in Arco (Italy), and a photo shooting together with the AEX Team.

So let us rock next year again,
and if you are also interested to participate to this crazy event, stay update with SALEWA.

Saturday, July 11th - Innsbruck (Austria)

8th and last RockShow Day

Getting up this morning was really hard. The reason of this is the huge amount of pubs and bars in the heart of Innsbruck.
But as we are all tough boys and girls we finally made it and met the Bag-Jump guys at the Höttinger Steinbruch. They were
already building up the Crash-Pad, and you should have seen the ancient faces of our athletes - They were really excited to test this special climbing
possibility as tour-ending highlight. Our free-solo specialist Daniel opened the bag-Jump session and soon also the rest of the crew joined the battle.
Also our Rookies of this day Alfons, Matthias, Nina, Thomas and Peter couldn't wait to jump into the enormous pad.
The 15 years old Alfons impressed us with his high climbing level and was therefore our final Hero of The Day.

To celebrate the enjoyable ending of the SALEWA RockShow we moved to Wolke 7 at the Hungerburg, where we enjoyed the local Strudel specalties
and the get together of the climbing community. Thank to Paul Freysoldt, Stephan Mitter, Barbi Schleich, Markus Eder and Flo Glück for joining this last tour-day.
As most of us were really exausted of 8 days of climbing, travelling and celebrating we had a really laid-back evening.
We finished the tour vice-versa we started it, jumped in our car and drove to Salzburg, Vienna, Bolzano, Switzerland and Munich.
Thanks for sharing the time with us!!

Now we are looking forward for the final battle at the Outdoor fair. See you in Friedrichshafen!

Friday, July 10th - Felbertal (Austria)

7th RockShow Day Felbertal

After a relaxing evening we had a very good rest and recharged our batteries.
In the morning we were welcomed by heavy rainfall. This meant, that we weren't able to climb at our planned destination Felbertal, but had to switch to Falkenstein at Matrei in Osttirol. Thanks to the local climbing-legend Herbert Raggentinger which helped us to find the spot and check out the routes!
We welcomed our rookies of today: Bernd, Christoph, Peter and Martin. Together with our athletes they could experience to climb this specific kind of rock. Also this day our mountaineerers carried their precious umbrellas, and they were desperately needed!
Our today's hero was Peter, a special Outdoor invitation also received Bernd.
We are looking forward to see them at the Outdoor because they are specialized in bouldering!
Then we started to our last tour-stop: Innsbruck. See you there at Höttinger Steinbruch.

Thursday, July 9th - Rienztal (Italy)
6th Rockshow Day Rienztal

The morning began very funny.... to be honest, it was not only the great few into the starssky
which made Renè spending the night on this roof-top.... again we arrived simply too late to check-in and mount our tents. So the whole team searched for a warm sleeping spot to avoid the fresh 8 degrees. First in the morning we had to find ourselves again and furthermore our waiter of the breakfast was surely a comedian in his first life. With the huge Weissbier-cup of hot chocolate and latte macchiato we headed to Rienztal.
Today we had five Rockies: Manuel, Hannes, Tobias, Christian and Mark. The decision of nominating was very though, as all five partecipantes were very good climbers, motivated and sympatic. But as every day a decision had to be made. Hero of the day is Tobias and we gave two wildcards for the Outdoor Fair in Friedrichshafen also to Mark and Hannes.
Wednesday, July 8th - Arco (Italy)
5th Rockshow Day Arco

Terra Promessa, our climbing spot of today, promised (nomen est omen) a lot of action. Already at 6 in the morning Flo and Florian began with shooting of "Claudio Caffè" and Roger and Daniel, after some gardener work, started with bolting their new line. The result was a brand new climbing route with was a nice project also for our Rockies: Rebecca, Simon and Caspar.
The Hero of the Day was Caspar, but as also Simon was showed us his great motivation and climbing talent, we will see them both at our boulder contest at the Outdoor fair in Friedrichshafen.
Route "Weinendes Herz" ("Crying Heart") project, proposed difficulty 8a+.
The Day ended very funny: Roger  showed us his rowing-arts, Claudia is a very talented bowling-player and Daniel was the winner of the spinning contest. And finally Renè showed us that his Landrover is better than every tent. He slept under the romantic starsky on the roof. Unfortunately alone! Good night.
Tuesday, July 7th - Tessin (Switzerland)
4th Rockshow Day: Tessin

Also if the weather-forecast was not that good we had sun in the morning. So we started with our lifestyle fotosession on our "little farm". And already shoot some nice video sequences for our up-coming Rockshow movie.
After that we started to the boulder area for checking a few good mooves. The area was very mystic with all the old trees and big blocks. Just perfect for Andrea's yoga exercises. As teh weather was getting worse soon we decided to start to Italy a little earlier. As in the car we had some time to reflect. During our tourstops of our Rockshow we recognized that we had not only a lot of fun until now, but have learned already a lot of useful things which of course we will share with you:
- if you ropebag is really heavy probably your climbing mate puts some stones inside
- if you carabiner will not open check if its not fixed with attac
- as professional mountaineerer carry always a flowerumbrella with you (it is always important to look good)
Monday, July 6th - Interlaken (Switzerland)

Third RockShow Day

Last night we didn't miss the cable-car and so we slept in our Mountain Chalet as planned. But when we woke up today it was raining... we think as everywhere in Europe today....

But as our motto is still "as hope dies last" we had breakfast and started to the climbing area Gimmelwald where Claudia Ziegler and Flo Murning did their best to get great photo and film material despite rain, clouds and fog.

Unfortunately we have still no internet access but promised: as soon as we find a possibility we put many, many pictures online.

On to the next tour-stop: Tessin, Cresciano

On our way to Tessin we stopped at Felix Meier's (well known swiss sports climber) famous Pizzeria near the Susten-Pass. There we found some nice rocks to start a spontaneous boulder-battle. After arriving at Cresciano and our nice "farm" we finished the day with ping pong, party and video-watching.

Sunday, July 5th - Interlaken (Switzerland)

Second RockShow Day

At midnight we arrived at our Second Stop: Interlaken in Switzerland. Just on this weekend there is a Harley Davidson Meeting in the town and so we had to switch already in advance to a Mountain Chalet in Gimmelwald. The only thing: This Mountain Chalet is reachable only by cable car, and the last one starts at 24:00 from the Valley Station.

And we were just 5 minutes too late....

Yes, and there we were... in the middle of the night at the dark parking area - but: as hope dies last we knocked at almost every door in the town and finally we found 9 beds for us!

So the night was a little short, but nevertheless we met the next day our RockShow participants Giulia, Massimiliano, Fabian and Patrick at the parking area from the climbing area Lehn. In the meantime also our Swiss and Austrian athletes Barbara, Roger and Andrea joined the team, and together we spent a great climbing day.

Today our Hero of the day is Patrick, only 13 years old, but already a very motivated climber. Also he received our trading check and the invitation to our boulder at the OutDoor Fair.

Thanks to all our Rockies for the really nice day!

We stay at Interlaken one day more and will hopefully do a nice photoshoot at Gimmelwald tomorrow!

Saturday, July 4th - Kochel (Germany)
First RockShow Day

In the morning we took breakfast in the typical bavarian Kesselberg camping restaurant. The word of the “Wirtin” (owner of the restaurant) was: “Die Gäste haben sich so zu benehmen, dass sich die Wirtin wohlfühlt” (the behaviour of the guest should make the wirtin feel comfortable)…and of course we did!
An hour later we met at the Kochl Wasserkraftwerk and installed SALEWA tent and climbing equipment.

Despite a bad weatherforecast, the circumstances were nice and we could welcome our Rockshow participants: Klara, Georg, Verena, Florian, Sebastian & Moritz … the battle for the first hero of the day started.
In the evening the Rockie of the day Florian Böbel was announced - his great motivation and high climbing level convinced us absolutely. He received an exclusive trading check and an invitation to Europe’s biggest Outdoor Fair, the OutDoor in Friedrichshafen. There, he will participate at the battle for becoming our Hero of the tour.
On to the next tour stop – Interlaken in Switzerland – cu there, in the climbing area Lehn.

Friday 3rd of July- Preparation Day

At 12:00 athletes, photographer, filmer and SALEWA Crew started from Bolzano (Ita), Innsbruck (Aut), Munich (Ger), Vienna & Salzburg (Aut) and arrived in Kochel am See/Germany – the first stop of the SALEWA Rockshow.
Fortunately, after a very rainy morning, the sun came out and we could fix the tents and dress up our extremely good looking motorized main actor – the Land Rover Defender. A big THANK YOU to our favourite Rockshow car owner – Rene Gruber, who will be part of the Rockshow Team.
Our athletes from the SALEWA alpineXtrem Team couldn`t wait to check out the climbing area of Kochel. So we decided to take a closer look at the “Africa” and “Atlantis” areas – but before we had to pass meters and meters of mud – ok, it wasn’t that bad and the routes were worth the effort. Luckily we also met Toni Lamprecht a.k.a. “Der Stier von Kochel” and some other locals, which gave us some very helpful insider information – Thank you guys…
Then we had to take care of Florian Riegler, who was suffering from hunger. It was so bad that he was even thinking about eating the frogs on the way…but as they could also have been witched princesses he decided finally to wait for dinner...
